Grilling outdoors with friends and family is one of the great things that bonds us as family and neighbors in a community. Even those who are merely walking by a house in the midst of a backyard barbeque feel a sense of home. It's one of those pieces of nostalgic Americana that keeps a little bit of innocence in our rapidly changing world.

But imagine enjoying the Sunday afternoon breeze in your backyard with your loved ones only to hear the painful yelp of your child who dies in a fatal accident. Then, you'll begin to understand the horror that one Texas family faced when their 12-year-old son was injured by a grill with a faulty design.

He attempted to close the lid, which reopened, splattering flames at his face. The Texas boy was airlifted to the hospital, suffered respiratory problems, cardiac arrest and multiple burns. Despite medical attempts, the boy died at a Texas Children's Hospital and his family is pursuing a wrongful death suit against the grill manufacturer.

While we make every attempt to supervise children during backyard barbeques, we should be able to trust somewhat that everyday products are safely built. This family did not have to lose their son. Of course no wrongful death suit can fully ease the pain and suffering his friends and family are going through. By fighting the manufacturer, the family may not only receive compensation for themselves, but they could also force stronger safety measures in the manufacturing of grills and prevent the wrongful death or injury of others.
