Truck drivers spend long hours on the road and don't always get to spend as much time with their families as they would like. In a recent Texas case one trucker took his teenage son with him on the road.
In the middle of the night, the son was asleep in the sleeper car, and the father lost control of his 18 wheeler. They crashed, and the 14-year-old son was killed. The details of this truck accident are still under investigation, and while critics will certainly debate whether the son should've been wearing a seatbelt, or been in the truck at all, the current focus is on finding out why the father crashed.
No one ever expects to be involved in an accident, especially not one as serious as this fatal Texas truck wreck. That belief, however, is naïve. Sadly, truck accidents are not uncommon. Many occur because of the long hours worked by the drivers. The drivers will drive while fatigued, which is a recipe for disaster.
Many truckers are good drivers, but no matter how good of a driver someone is, he has to be certain that he is well-rested and attentive to the task of driving. That is even more important when the driver's very own child is a passenger in the truck. As we mentioned earlier, the cause of the wreck is still unknown, meaning that the father in this case has not been accused of or admitted to drowsy driving.
There is little doubt that this father was not looking to cause and hurt his son in a truck accident. It is likely that he was simply trying to spend time with him. Unfortunately, tragedy struck, and now the father and son's time together has been forever cut short.
We will post an update if there are developments in this case related to the cause of the crash.
